Kodak and Fujifilm Print Film Emulations rebuilt as fully editable Davinci YRGB PowerGrades. Available as standalone print film emulations or a combination of the FilmUnlimited Kodak 250D negative film emulation plus the print film emulation. FILMUNLIMITED KODAK 250D NEGATIVE FILM EMULATION
The FilmUnlimited Kodak 250D negative emulation replaces the old 250D Film Matrix emulation. It is far more accurate, far more editable and produces far better results.
HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO THE FULL VERSION OF FILMUNLIMITED?
The core 250D emulation is identical between the two. But FilmUnlimited includes halation, grain, and gate weave emulation. It also includes my sharpening setup and my custom modified 2383 LUTs, plus an additional negative film stock: Kodak Vision3 500T. And there is also the option for in-camera LUT versions to preview the look while on set.
WHICH POWERGRADE(S) SHOULD I GET?
- ONE POWERGRADE
- If you’re only going to purchase one PowerGrade I would look at getting the Kodak 2383 emulation. If you already own FilmUnlimited, I would just get the standard version as you already have the Kodak 250D emulation and it’s easy to combine the two.
- 2383 is pretty much the gold standard of print film emulations. It has natural skin tones and pleasing well balanced colours which make it easy to work with. If you’re into teal and orange looks, it also has a cyan push which assists in creating that type of look.
- TWO POWERGRADES
- If you’re looking at getting two PowerGrades, I would look at getting 2383 for the reasons above, along with Fujifilm 3521XD. If you already own FilmUnlimited, I would just get the standard versions.
- 3521XD is slightly more saturated compared to 2383 and offers a thicker, more vibrant colours especially with the Tints node disabled. It doesn’t have as strong a cyan push as 2383, but it’s easy to copy the Cyan node over to achieve similar results. With these two PowerGrades you should be covered for most PFE-style looks.
For any more than two, its best to get all the PowerGrades via one of the bundles.
