Free download — Loose Watercolor Roses: Wedge brush style
NOTE: this class uses a Beste Fountain wedge brush
Available at Jerry’s Artarama or Amazon
A Silver Ruby Satin Triangle or Princeton Petals brush can be substituted but I only use a Beste Fountain wedge brush in class
You’re welcome to substitute with a round brush too. Many skills can be learned!
A dagger or a striper brush is not recommended
Some prior experience with watercolor and a wedge brush is helpful but all levels are welcome!
Learn a wet-in-wet technique that makes this loose style of painting less scary!
learn to maintain some control of those beautiful bleeds as the paint collides with the wet paper
Every step is explained
Due to the “faster” nature of the wet in wet technique, some lessons required using voice-over so I could explain the information in more detail
Learn to lighten up your strokes in a loose & expressive way
Learn to avoid painting roses that look like blobs
See how to soften the look of your painting and avoid hard edges
Color Palette – ONLY 4 colors:
Red or Pink of your choice. I’ll be using:
Alizarin Crimson (Winsor & Newton)
Golden Yellow of your choice. I’ll be using:
Quinacridone Gold (Daniel Smith)
Green of your choice. I’ll be using:
Green Grey (Holbein)
Blue of your choice. I’ll be using
Payne’s Blue Gray (Daniel Smith)
By end of class you’ll have painted 4 loose watercolor rose designs to be used for:
stand-alone art pieces for yourself or to give as gifts,
adorning your lettering pieces,
embellishing letters, packages, cards, gift tags, bookmarks, envelopes, or whatever else your creative self chooses!
Elevating your creative resume in what you can offer your clients… aka, more revenue for you and your business!
Supplies:
Small spray bottle with clean water – This is important to have throughout class
Cold-pressed watercolor paper (I recommend a quality watercolor paper of 140#. I use Arches)
Beste Fountain wedge brush (size 6 and/or 8) OR (a Silver Ruby Satin Triangle or a Princeton Petals brush)
Large round or mop brush
Watercolor (See above. Feel free to use colors you prefer)
2 water jars
Paper towels
(Optional: table salt, for a fun effect!)
That’s it! Learn how to keep it simple, charming & elegant with only a few supplies!
